Viviana graduated in 2014 with Distinction from her Masters Degree in oboe performance at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Celia Nicklin, Melanie Ragge and cor anglais with Jill Crowther. 

 

Viviana was born in Villavicencio, Colombia and studied the oboe at the Conservatorio de Música of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (National University of Colombia) in the class of Andreas Schneider, where she received her Bachelor Degree in Music in 2011.

 

During her time in Bogotá she won the most important Colombian competitions for young musicians and oboe players, such as the 10th Bogotá City Musical Interpreation Competition for oboe players in the young category and the Young Talents Scholarship Competition of the Banco de la República de Colombia (Central Bank of Colombia), which sponsored her MA at the Academy.  As young talent musician of the Luis Angel Arango´s Library and the Cartagena International Music Festival, she played many recitals around the country and also she played solo with the Symphony Orchestra of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and Philharmonic Orchestra of Cali. Viviana has participated in the most important music festivals in Latin America in countries such as: Colombia, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Brazil.

 

Her orchestra experience include the Young Philharmonic Orchestra of Colombia in the season 2011-2012, Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme 2013, Penderecki Musik Akademie Westfalen 2013 , Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Southbank Sinfonia  2015.

 

During her time at the Royal Academy of Music, she won the Paddy Purcell Award, the Barry Grimaldi Prize for cor anglais solo and the Janet Craxton Memorial Prize 2014.

 

Viviana has taken Masterclasses with Daniel Bates, Pedro Diaz, Alex Klein, Nicholas Daniel, Ingo Goritzki, Thomas Indermuhle, Cristina Gómez, Nora Cismondi, Fabien Thouand, Domenico Orlando, Alexei Ogrintchouk, Maurice Bourgue, Hansjörg Schellenberger, Jean-Louis Capezzalli, David Walter, Albrecht Mayer, Emmanuel Abbuhl  and Jonathan Kelly.  Also she has been playing under directors and conductors such as Luis Biava, Rossen Milanov, Baldur Bronnimann, Thierry Fischer, Maxim Vergerov, Steuart Bedford, Krzysztof Penderecki, Martin Brabbins, Yan Pascal Tortelier, Sir Mark Elder, Semyon Bychkov, Antonio Papano, Vladimir Ashkenazy  y Christoph Von Dochnanyi.

 

From 2016 she is back in Colombia, combining  her career as orchestra musician and pedagogy, she is currently Assistant Principal Oboe and Cor Anglais of the Colombian National Symphony Orchestra and oboe professor at Universidad Central and Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá.
